Woman Wakes Up From Coma And Discovers A Miracle

A 20-year-old woman of Tennessee gave birth to a premature baby boy (nicknamed “Baby L”) while in a coma during January 2015. At the time of her son’s birth, Sharista Giles was comatose for over a month. Yet Giles did not learn about her son’s arrival until later in April.

This bittersweet situation started back in December 2014, which is the month Giles got into a serious car accident while five months pregnant. Later on, she fell into a coma. Fortunately, the unborn child survived the deadly crash, yet the future of Giles didn’t seemed as promising — doctors caring for her did not expect her to wake up. The family of Giles prayed for her recovery and had strong hope that she would eventually wake up and rejoin them as well as celebrate the new life of her baby.

On April 8th, 2015, Giles woke up during her stay at the Harriman Care and Rehabilitation Center, and her family was notified shortly after. They got to the center as soon as possible to see her. They witnessed her blinking and squeezing their hands as she responded to their presence. Giles was shown a photo of her son by her father, and she literally followed it with her eyes as her father pinned it back to the bulletin board in the room.

Despite Giles waking up, it is still too early to officially know her prognosis. The hope remains of the family that she will be reunited with Baby L. He has been staying in the neonatal intensive care unit at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
