Adani is the richest person in India, and most of it is thanks to Adani Enterprises, which includes Adani Group companies. He is only a few billion shy of beating Microsoft founder Bill Gates. However, being the 5th richest person in the world is still quite an accomplishment.

Guatam Adani Early Life

Gautam Adani was born on June 24, 1962, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. His mother was Shanti Adani. His father, Shantilal Adani, was a man in the textile business. Although Adani had an eye for business, he did not follow in his father’s textile footsteps.

He was born to a large family and has seven siblings. His brothers are Vinod Adani, Mahasukhi Adani, Rajesh Adani, Vasant Adani. His sisters remain unknown.

Adani graduated from Gujarat University, India. After that, he pursued further education in hopes of achieving his bachelor’s degree in commerce but dropped out after his second year.

In 1978, Gautam Adani found himself living in Mumbai as a teenager. He worked for the Mahendra Brothers as a diamond sorter. There, he learned a great deal about diamonds and Adani decided to start his own diamond brokerage in Zaveri, Mumbai.

By 1981, his older brother had purchased a plastic unit and had asked Adani to manage operations. This fueled his insatiable ambition and led to him learning more about the businesses he would later be a large part of.

Adani then founded Adani Exports in 1988. Today, that business is known as the Adani Group.

The Adani Group

The Adani Group is Gautam Adani’s main claim to fame and contributes significantly to Gautam Adani’s net worth. It deals primarily in power commodities and agriculture. The more money this company invests, the wealthier it becomes, and the higher the Gautam Adani net worth goes.

The 1990s saw an insane amount of growth in this company. In addition to agriculture and power, the company began to become invested in the trading of metals, agro products, and textiles. As they got into the port business, Adani Group began to score port contracts. Today, this portion of the business is known as Adani Ports and SEZ.

The growth of the company, nor the growth of the Gautam Adani net worth, did not stop there. They became invested in producing power in the late 90s. The power portion of the company is known as Adani Power and consists of multiple thermal-producing power plants. It is the largest thermal energy producer in the country.

Adani Power continues to grow. As climate change becomes a concern for every country, Adani Power has begun to expand in order to meet the coming needs of India. Adani Power will also have Adani Green Energy as a portion of Adani Enterprises.  Adani Green Energy will include both exploration, transmission, and the development of renewable energy.

What Does The Future Hold For Gautam Adani?

One year alone saw Gautam Adani’s net worth grow by $50 billion dollars, which helped him beat Warren Buffet to become the world’s fifth richest man. As the years pass, the Adani Group continues to expand, building more company arms to keep up with a changing world. All the while, the current portions of the company continue to do well. Gautam Adani has created an empire that will more than likely continue to do as well as it previously has. Gautam Adani’s net worth will continue to grow at an astonishing rate just like the company Adani founded has done in the past, and will continue to in the future.
