Chris Rock starred in his first HBO stand-up comedy special, Big Ass Jokes, in 1994. Chris Rock / Will Smith Altercation

Rock hosted the Academy Awards in 2005 and 2016, Rock was once again asked to co-host in 2022. The show seemed to be going well when Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hairstyle.

Her husband, Will Smith, took offense, stormed on stage, and slapped Rock before 17.4 million viewers. Chris Rock maintained his composure and didn’t file an assault report with the Los Angeles Police Department.
