Beer Is The Secret To Longevity According To This 110-Year-Old

The fabled fountain of life may as well be filled with beer, as the light alcoholic drink is the answer to longevity, according to Mark Behrends, a 110-year-old man from Nebraska. After his 110th birthday last week, Behrends shared that he believes beer has helped him live as long as he has.

Having the habit of drinking one can of beer each day, at exactly 3pm, the old Nebraska man has been identified by the Gerontology Research Group as the oldest living man in the United States with a clearly identifiable age. Even though Behrends used to live independently until he was 106, he is currently at a nursing home. However, that doesn’t stop him from continuing his habit.

“He always jokes that [beer] is his medicine,” his daughter laughs, as Behrends doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon. Taking little actual medicine, Behrend wants you to know that you should drink responsibly. His life may be worth emulating and studies do show that moderate amounts of alcohol can be extremely beneficial to one’s health. However, you have to be able to control your habit — that’s the hard part!
