School District In Tennessee Served Elementary School Students Meat That Was Six Years Old

If you thought your school lunches were bad, you should be thankful that you don’t live in Rogersville, Tennessee. This school district recently served their students pieces of pork that dated back to 2009. This meat was six years old and several of the workers even complained that it had a foul odor to it. Despite the stench, the workers smothered the meat in gravy to keep the taste from being detected. Not only was this meat served at one school, but it was served throughout the district.

Luckily, there have been no reports of any students becoming ill from the aged meat. The test conducted by the school district of the pork in question came up negative for any contaminants. The school district also reported that some of the meats they keep in the freezer date from 2009 to 2011. Despite the fact that these meats test negatively for any bacterias, this is against USDA guidelines. These guidelines only recommend that a piece of meat is stored in the freezer for a period of 4 to 12 months.
