Rats Crawling Over Food Causes Burger King Restaurant To Be Shut Down

A Burger King outlet in Delaware was temporarily shut down last week after Shantel Johnson uploaded a video of two rats running across the burger buns. The video has gone viral, and Johnson said “Don’t go to Burger King on 202 [rats are] running all over their buns … [at] Wilmington Delaware Concord Pike.

The Division of Public Health Office and Food Protection received complaints last Friday that there were rodents in the restaurant on Concord Pike in Wilmington, Delaware. The Burger King franchise was inspected and was immediately shut down due to imminent health hazards, caused by “gross unsanitary conditions” and “rodent infestations.

The inspection uncovered rodent droppings on and inside hamburger and chicken sandwich buns, near the ice machine, water heater, under dry storage, and even near syrup boxes. The inspectors also found that rodents chewed through the plastic covering the buns, while two mice were found in traps.

Burger King has said that the restaurant in question is independently owned and operated, however they have contacted the owner to “investigate this matter and ensure they take the appropriate measures.” The restaurant reopened at the start of this week, however the owners were reinspected for “food security issues.”
