James Bond Author Says Idris Elba ‘Too Street’ For Bond Role

Author Anthony Horowitz, who is currently working on a brand new James Bond novel, has spoken out on the idea of British actor Idris Elba playing James Bond in a new film. According to the man, he believes Elba is “too street” for the role.

Elba is currently a favorite to take on the role of the British secret agent when actor Daniel Craig steps down from the franchise. Horowitz does not feel Elba would make a good fit for the role, though the 42-year-old has had plenty of experience in action franchises.

Speaking to Daily Mail, Horowitz said: “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too “street” for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”

Many fans are accusing the author of making a veiled racist remark, and Horowitz is apologizing, saying he used “a poor choice of word” and is “mortified to have caused offense.” Horowitz added that he felt Adrian Lester, another known black actor, would be a better choice to take on the role of Bond. The author claimed he was thinking of Elba’s “gritty portrayal of DCI John Luther” when he made the first comment.

Personally, we’d love to see Elba as the new face of James Bond.
