Condoms Sold On Groupon Australia Recalled For Being Counterfeit

We aren’t quite sure why you are buying condoms on Groupon, but if you happened to buy some condoms on the Groupon Australia website then be careful. It appears the condoms were sold under the branding of Durex’s “Extra Safe,” “Thin Feel” and “Performa” product lines, but the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said that they are counterfeit condoms and may contain “holes in the latex“.

The condoms were sold on the site between March 12 and April 10 under the seller Edgelounge Enterprises. The recall states that “the condoms may not prevent pregnancy or protect users against sexually transmitted diseases, which can result in serious illness or death.”

Because of that, Groupon could face some major backlash and some major lawsuits if any pregnancies or illnesses comes from users that bought the condoms and used them before the recall happened. Since the recall, people have been asked to throw out the condoms immediately and an investigation is underway to see if Groupon could be liable for any pregnancies.

A Groupon representative said: “Customers are our utmost priority at Groupon and we take their health and safety very seriously. All customers who purchased the counterfeit products have been proactively contacted by Groupon notifying them of the recall and have been advised to discontinue use immediately, dispose or return the goods, and seek professional medical advice if they have concerns about their health. A full refund has been processed to all customers.”
