Ronda Rousey suffered from a speech disorder for six years because she was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. Her parents moved the family to Jamestown, North Dakota, when Rousey was three so she could receive specialized therapy at Minot State University. 

When Ronda Rousey was eight years old, her father committed suicide. This was after a back injury that happened while sledding that would have resulted in him being a paraplegic. 

Ronda’s mother, AnnaMarie De Mars, was the first woman to win a World Judo Championship. 

Rousey never finished high school because she dropped out, but she did earn her GED later. 

Judo Career

Ronda Rousey began her entry into the world of fighting with Judo. She showed a keen interest in it and began to practice with her mother when she was only eleven years old. At the age of thirteen, she began working with a professional trainer. When Ronda Rousey was seventeen, she qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and was the youngest Judo competitor in the World Junior Judo Championships.
