Cards Against Humanity Wants More Women In Science
In a weird twist of events, the card game for horrible people is doing something awesome for women. Cards Against Humanity just released a new science themed expansion deck that, in addition to adding 30 new cards to the already hilarious game, will help send young women to college. With every pack purchased for $10, the company will put a portion of the proceeds into a scholarship fund for women pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM).
“Women are underrepresented in science, tech, engineering, and math, and we felt like the funding from this pack could have the greatest impact by making it possible for more women to get an education in those fields, and by giving them a platform to share their work and their passion for science,” Cards Against Humanity co-creator Josh Dillon said in a press release earlier this month.
The program will begin reviewing applications for the 2016 school year with a panel of 40 STEM educated women who will make the call on which lucky ladies get a free ride to the career of their dreams. Previously, similar charity packs released by Cards Against Humanity have raised nearly $2 million for non-profits like the Wikimedia Foundation, the Sunlight Foundation, and DonorsChoose.org. The hope is that this one will be no different.
“Cards Against Humanity has a wide reach online, and we’re anticipating a huge volume of applications,” said community manager Jenn Bane. “Our hope is that this scholarship makes a tremendous impact in someone’s life, and creates more visibility for women working in science.“
