Two Killed In Plane Crash On Set Of Tom Cruise’s Latest Movie

A small aircraft crashed during filming of Tom Cruise’s latest film and two crew members on board were killed. Filming is going on for the narco-trafficker film Mena and tragedy struck the set on Friday night. Stunt pilot Alan D. Purwin and Carlos Brel were killed during the incident, while the pilot, Jimmy Lee Garlam, suffered injuries. After initial reports claimed that Tom Cruise was on the plane as well, however representatives for Cruise later confirmed he was not on board.

An aircraft carrying crew members crashed while returning to Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin following [the] production wrap on the film ‘Mena,’ resulting in two fatalities,” said a spokesman for Universal Pictures. “On behalf of the production, our hearts and prayers go out to the crew members and their families at this difficult time.” Mena is a film about a real-life TWA pilot who worked for the cocaine drug lord Pablo Escobar. The plane was being used to transport members of the crew back and forth.
