Snoop Dogg And Wiz Khalifa Teamed Up With Sir Richard Branson To Make A Film About Legalizing Marijuana

Rappers Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa have teamed up with Sir Richard Branson to make a documentary about the legalizing of marijuana. The men are trying to change the way the world views the individuals that use drugs. With their film, The Culture High, Branson hopes they will be able get people to see that drugs aren’t a criminal issue, instead it is a health issue.

In The Culture High documentary, Sir Richard Branson and many drug policy experts say that there is actual evidence that will eventually have the biggest impact in making effective drug policies. Drug campaigners have tried for many years to get politicians to touch on the drug subject. Since the subject was deemed ‘taboo’ many politicians didn’t want to discuss it, regardless of the fact that evidence was available.

“Civil servants told me that they had learnt that it is not helpful to use evidence which challenges the dominant way of thinking that is already structuring those policies. It is much easier to take the evidence that supports what you are already doing and use that to justify the continuation of your existing policy.” Professor Alex Stevens, School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research

In a recent interview, Sir Richard Branson stated that it is time for a new approach and the war on drugs isn’t working.

“If you have overwhelming evidence that something isn’t working, would you continue to do it? If I was running a business that was failing, and saw no signs of improvement, I would shut it down and try a new approach. It is time leaders took their heads out of the sand, opened their eyes and ears and listened to the evidence. The war on drugs is not working.”

The Culture High is available to stream now on Netflix.
