First Danish Astronaut Takes Legos To Space

It’s been decades since a man first walked on the moon — and while there are still plenty of planets that haven’t been graced by giant leaps for mankind, that hasn’t stopped astronauts from venturing out. If the future makes good on its promises, then more and more people will make it past Earth’s borders. Most recently, one astronaut has made a landmark trip — and he brought a few friends along for the ride.

Copenhagen’s Andreas Mogensen is on record as the first Danish man to head into space, thanks to his career as an aerospace engineer. His current mission is to head to the International Space Station and take photographs of thunderstorms and lightning. Even so, he was given several trinkets to remind him of home — chief among them, twenty-six Lego toys decorated with the mission logo. Granted Mogensen made the trip alongside two fellow astronauts, so he won’t be wanting for company; still, it could be a case of “the more the merrier”.

Once the ten-day mission is complete, the Legos will be given to schoolchildren for safe keeping — an outstanding addition to any collection. Sending up toys is a strange way to celebrate a landmark achievement, but it’s still more than enough to put smiles on people’s faces.
