Doctor Saved Baby 30 Years Ago, You Won’t Believe What Happened Next

When Dr. Michael Shannon had a car accident on March 29th, 2011, his car was on fire by the time first responders arrived. He had to be extracted from his vehicle with the Jaws of Life. The paramedic who rescued him, Chris Trokey, was in shock when he heard the doctor’s name. “I didn’t know about until I went to the hospital and started talking about it, Dr. Shannon. And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, Dr. Shannon?‘” Trokey recalled. “That’s when I found out.

Thirty years prior, paramedic Chris Trokey was born very premature, weighing only 3.2 pounds. He was given only a 50% chance of survival. Pediatrician Dr. Michael Shannon stayed by the baby’s side to make sure he survived. He was credited with Trokey’s survival. “It’s amazing to watch them all grow up, but to have one come back in your life, on a day you really need it, that’s really incredible,” Dr. Shannon said.

They are both spreading the love by raising money for St. Baldrick’s charity for childhood cancer. Dr. Shannon is now the pediatrician for Chris Trokey’s son.
