Woman Jailed Over Loud Sex Noises
Gemma Wale from Birmingham, UK, was recently arrested and put in jail for two weeks after neighbors complained to the Birmingham City Council that she was making a racket in her apartment. What kind of noises? The sexual kind!
Before her arrest in May, Wale was actually served with an ‘Antisocial Behavior Order’ (ABO) back in January for constantly disturbing her neighbors. Breaking or breaching the imposed ABO is considered a criminal offense in the United Kingdom.
However this did not seem to solve the issue; a few months later neighbors reported hearing very loud sex coming from her apartment early one morning. According to Huffington Post, “Gemma started screaming and shouting whilst having sex, which woke us up,” a neighbor said at a hearing in May. “This lasted 10 minutes.“
When the matter was taken to court, the judge found that Wale had indeed violated the ABO which also prohibited her from shouting, swearing, playing loud music ,making banging noises, stomping or slamming doors. She concluded that Wale had breached the order, not just by the sex noises reported by her neighbors but also by arguing with her boyfriend, swearing at a neighbor and banging around the house.
She imposed separate two-week jail terms on Wale for each breach but said all terms would run concurrently.
