Twisted Colossus Ride Finally Opening At Magic Mountain Next Month

If you were one of those roller-coaster enthusiasts who just loved the Colossus wooden roller coaster before it shut down last August, then you’re probably going to jump with joy today. Six Flags Magic Mountain has announced the hotly anticipated Twisted Colossus ride is set to open to everyone on May 23rd, reports KTLA.

The theme park is calling this “the next generation of the beloved wooden roller coast.” The “world record-breaking” coaster combines both the iconic wooden structure many people still adore with “state-of-the-art Iron Horse Track.” In its entirety, the Twisted Colossus spans around 5,000 feet of track and lasts about four-minutes, making it the longest hybrid coaster in the world to date.

Twisted Colossus will feature a massive 116-foot drop, 18 airtime lifts, a “High Five” – which is when two trains point directly at each other before taking a banked turn, plus a “Top Gun Stall” – where the train slows while upside down.

Bonnie Rabjohn, president of the Valencia-based amusement park, has said the upcoming roller coaster is faster and steeper. Rabjohn said:

At Six Flags, innovation is in our DNA and with Twisted Colossus, innovation will go to an extreme level with record-breaking elements, faster speeds and steeper banks. This cutting-edge technology marries the best of both classic and modern coaster designs. It is definitely a twist on a traditional wooden coaster experience.

Twisted Colossus opens May 23rd at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
