Taxi Driver Mows Down 15 People In Moscow During World Cup

Eight people have been injured after Anarbek Uulu, a 28-year-old from Kyrgyzstan, drove his taxi onto a sidewalk in Moscow. Footage of the incident has been circulating on social media, which shows Uulu turning right to overtake cars in front of him, when he mounts the curb into a crowd of people.

The vehicle hit as many as 15 people on the sidewalk, before it hit a sign post and came to a stop. Two men tried to wrestle Uulu out of the car, who can be seen running away from the scene. Uulu has since been taken into custody, and the Moscow police department released a statement saying “According to preliminary information, seven people requested medical assistance. The preliminary cause of the accident is that the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Reports have indicated that eight people were injured, and a Moscow health department official said “seven of them are in satisfactory condition and one woman is in moderate condition.” Other reports have indicated that Uulu fell asleep at the wheel, causing his car to veer onto the sidewalk, whilst others have stated that he accidentally accelerated instead of braking.
