Super Mario 64 Gets HD Upgrade In New Video

Super Mario 64 has long been one of the most beloved games to ever hit a Nintentdo console. If there was one thing holding it back until now, it was that it’s graphics simply aren’t as good as what gamers are used to seeing when they power on their PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Wii U. That particular factor was holding the game back, but the 1996 release has gotten a graphics upgrade and a new video showing off its new look.

The game, which was first released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996, hasn’t been completely revamped from head to toe, but computer science student Erik Roystan Ross has managed to soup up the video quality of one level of Super Mario 64 using the Unity engine and his own Super Character Controller program. The video shows what the revamped graphics look like but you can do more than simply watch the level play out. Ross has put the level out there for anyone who has a computer that has the Unity plugin installed. Check out the video and then play the HD level on your Windows, Mac, or Linux computer.
