Miss Piggy Receives Award For Feminism
Last week, the glam Muppet Miss Piggy received an award from the Brooklyn’s Sackler Center for Feminist Art for her contribution to awareness of feminism and women’s rights. “She has inspired children to be who you are and this squares very directly with feminism,” Sackler told USA Today, when defending the controversial decision to award the prize to Miss Piggy.
Miss Piggy herself was thrilled to receive the award, and addressed those who ridiculed her as a recipient in a recent Time magazine article: “I believe any woman who is willing to struggle, strive—and if necessary learn karate—to make their mark in the world is a feminist. And, yes, I believe that any woman, who cares about her appearance, her star billing and most especially her percentage of the gross, is a feminist. Moi is all of these things.” Hard to argue with that, especially when the award winner is a black belt in karate!
Previous recipients of the award include Toni Morrison, Anita Hill, Connie Chung and Sandra Day O’Connor.
