Man Shoots Himself While Trying To Show How Safe Gun Is

An Arizona man is in hospital after he shot himself while apparently trying to demonstrate to friends exactly how safe his new gun was. Christen Reece, a 23-year-old man from Phoenix was trying to show off the double safety feature on a handgun when the weapon discharged and fired into his head.

According to Jim Molesa, chief deputy of the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, Reece and some of his friends were drinking late when they decided to go and try out some of their guns. The victim then put the gun to his head to demonstrate the safety feature would not allow it to fire unexpectedly. “They were partying in the Valley, and then when the bars closed around 2 or 3, someone said, ‘Let’s go to the high country and shoot guns,’” Molesa says. “He held the gun up to head, a little behind the temple area, and fired.

His friends then panicked and unknowing what to do, immediately called the emergency services. Paramedics arrived soon afterwards but the wound was so serious that Reece had to be airlifted to hospital. “He immediately dropped to the ground, and his acquaintances started freaking out, not sure what to do.

The chief deputy had some wise words to share about the ordeal afterwards, saying that: “the main thing any teacher of a gun-safety class wants students to walk away is that you should treat every gun as if it’s loaded and never point it at yourself or anyone else.”
