Indonesian Woman Gets Swallowed Whole By Python

Wa Tiba, 54, went missing from her village whilst gardening on Muna Island in Southeast Sulawesi province, Indonesia, on Thursday evening. After the 54-year-old woman didn’t arrive home, her family became worried. They set out early Friday and found only her belongings which included sandals and a flashlight.

Wa Tiba’s family and almost 100 villagers continued searching for the woman, and discovered a seven-meter long (23 foot long) python with a bloated belly. The villagers killed the snake and carried it back to the village, and were shocked with what they found.

Residents were suspicious the snake swallowed the victim, so they killed it, then carried it out of the garden,” said local police chief Hamka. “The snake’s belly was cut open and the body of the victim was found inside.”

The village’s chief, Faris, said “When they cut open the snake’s belly they found Ms Tiba’s body still intact with all her clothes. She was swallowed first from her head.” Faris added that the victim’s garden, which is approximately 1 kilometer from her house,  is a rocky area with plenty of caves and cliffs which the villagers believe contain many snakes.

Reticulated pythons are found throughout Indonesia, and kill their prey by grabbing onto it with their sharp, curved teeth, strangling it to death and then swallowing it whole.
