Hero NYPD Officers Save 15-Month-Old Baby After She Has A Seizure

First-time mother Caroline Ivanov, 29, was frantic when her 15-month-old daughter began having a seizure at a Brooklyn restaurant on Saturday night. Chloe was turning blue form not breathing, when her mother ran out of the restaurant with Chloe and saw an NYPD patrol car stopped at a red light. Ivanov began pounding on the patrol car’s window, begging for the officers to help her daughter.

“This is my first child, my only child, and I’m watching her go lifeless in my arms,” Ivanov said, adding “obviously I’m terrified.”

The two officers in the car – Michael Pace and Joseph Doyle – from the 60th Precinct, both saw Chloe turning blue and called for an ambulance which was eight minutes away. Lieutenant Patrick King and Officer Daniel Newman heard the call on their radio and rushed over; and luckily Newman was a certified emergency medical technician (EMT). Newman saw Chloe foaming at the mouth, and instead of waiting for the ambulance the officers rushed the 15-month-old to Coney Island Hospital.

Whilst on their way to hospital, Newman performed CPR on Chloe in the backseat of the patrol car while her mother looked on. “It’s scary, but there was no time to think,” Newman said. “All I could think about was just doing whatever I could do to keep some form of CPR going in the back of the cop car, bringing them to the hospital, she’ll have a chance” As the patrol car arrived at the hospital, Chloe’s heart began beating again, with her color returning to her face.

Chloe was admitted to the pediatric emergency room, where she was treated for a fever of 104.5°F (40.3°C) before being released. “They really acted like New York’s Finest at that moment,” her mother said. “If it wasn’t for them, I don’t know if I would be holding my daughter right now.”
