‘Doomsday Asteroid’ Is Passing Earth Today

It seems like we’re always hearing about some type of doomsday scenario that is going to bring about the end of our world as we know it. More often than not, though, these conspiracy scenarios come from an odd-ball group with no merit.

However, NASA is currently reporting that a ‘doomsday asteroid’, which is an asteroid big enough to destroy all life on our world, is passing by our planet today. Luckily, this massive asteroid currently poses no threat to our planet. Asteroid 2012 TTS will pass us at 5 million miles (8 million km) from the planet.

Of course, 5 million miles is quite a distance from Earth. It’s a bit more than a ‘close call’, so people really shouldn’t worry. A NASA spokesperson said: “NASA knows of no asteroid or comet currently on a collision course with Earth, so the probability of a major collision is quite small.”

It would be incredible to view this asteroid as it passes by, though.
