Soon after graduating with his Master’s degree, Virgil Abloh landed his first internship at Fendi. He was stationed at the company’s Rome head office. This is where he met his friend and fellow intern, rapper, and entrepreneur, Kanye West. 

They not only became friends, but they soon started to collaborate on creative efforts. In fact, in 2010, Kanye West appointed Virgil Abloh to be the Creative Director for DONDA. Other notable creative collaboration relationship work includes Virgil Abloh as the Creative Director on Watch the Throne, a collaborative album that rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West put together. 

Founding Off-White

In 2013, Virgil decided to embark on a new journey when he launched his brand, Off White. The Milan-based fashion brand showcased its first women’s collection at Paris Fashion Week that same year.

The fashion label became widely known for its unique use of imagery from using barricade tape, punctuation marks, and zip-ties.
