David Letterman Would Have Picked Stewart Over Colbert

It turns out that David Letterman would have chosen Jon Stewart over Stephen Colbert as his successor on Late Night, had he been consulted. Recently, in an interview with the New York Times, Letterman noted that he felt Jon Stewart would have been an ideal choice but that he is sure Colbert would do well. The Late Night Talk Show host that is set to retire this May also noted that he realizes its time to “give the younger generation the chance to take over the Late Night TV hosting.” It turns out Letterman loved seeing John Mayer hosting the ‘Late Late show‘ as a stand in host and realized that a “young, handsome, trim, and witty” host is what the audience wants.

In addition to wishing his replacement all the best, David Letterman is looking forward to retirement being “more than I ever dreamed.” He noted in the interview that he had moved to California to have a baby and felt immense anxiety with the move but, when the change was actually made, it was better than he ever dreamed. The retiring talk show host has similar hopes for his retirement. David Letterman’s final show as host of the Late Show will air on May 20th, 2015.
