Charity To Replace Autistic Child’s Stolen Lawn

A charity set up by lorry drivers in the United Kingdom have come to the rescue of a young child who suffers with autism and other sensory problems by agreeing to replace a stolen lawn.

Five-year-old Carl Smith needed the special lawn in order to play outside, as it was specially designed to be soft so as to not cause any injuries to children with disabilities. It was stolen from the family home after being rolled up and left outside in preparation for when they moved to another house, leaving Carl without any way to safely play in the back garden as his parents could not afford the £1,000 to replace it.

Despite pleas for the thieves to return the lawn, the police confirmed that they had no information about who might have taken it or where it is now, although they are still investigating the theft.

East Coast Truckers, a local children’s charity, have since contacted the family and offered to replace the lawn as soon as possible so that Carl can carry on going outside just as before. “We’re arranging the quotes now and we hope to have the turf in place by the weekend or early next week,” said charity spokesman Michael Read. “We want it to be exactly like it was before, nice and soft, because that’s what is important to Carl. This is what we do as a charity.”
