Canadian Doctors Protest Saying They Make Too Much Money

Doctors in Canada are protesting after they were all granted raises totaling $700 million. Most people protest because they aren’t making enough – but not Canadians – they’re protesting because they’re making too much money…. what?

General practitioners and medical specialists in Quebec signed a petition stating that they don’t want just short of a billion dollars in raises, they’d rather the money go to nurses and other health-care professionals. A section of the petition reads:

“These increases are all the more shocking because our nurses, clerks and other professionals face very difficult working conditions, while our patients live with the lack of access to required services because of the drastic cuts in recent years”

The average salary for a physician in Canada is $260,000, while the nation’s average salary is just over $51,000 per year. The raise was given to 10,000 doctors in Quebec, raising total annual salaries from $4.7 billion to $5.4 billion, but they’re not happy.

Would you be complaining if you were given a raise?
