Burglar Caught By Calling 911 After Being Stuck In An Elevator

A burglar has been caught in Delaware after he was forced to call 911 for help after becoming trapped in an elevator while he was in the middle of a burglary. Michael Claude, a 19-year-old male from New Jersey, was travelling in the service elevator after breaking into Laurel Middle School when it became stuck and he couldn’t get out.

The man later rang police after it became apparent that he wasn’t going to be freed any time soon, officers then contacted a maintenance engineer who was able to pry open the elevator doors to let Claude out, though he was promptly arrested by members of the police force who were there.

Police believe that the man had broken into the school earlier in the night and could be seen on CCTV footage riding down the hallway on a buffing machine moments before he entered the elevator. They found him wearing a stolen Laurel letterman jacket and have since charged him with third-degree burglary, criminal mischief and theft. Claude has since been released on bail with a $3,800 bond while police investigate further.
