91-Year-Old Woman Charged With 260,000 Counts Of Accessory To Murder
A 91-year-old German woman who happened to work at Auschwitz during World War II is being accused of being an accessory to murder of at least 260,000 Jewish victims. A court in the German city of Kiel is currently deciding whether or not to bring the woman to trial next year. The city’s chief prosecutor, Heinz Dollel, said the woman belonged in an all-female unit that offered help to the Nazi SS throughout various concentration camps during the war.
The woman in question was a telegraph operator at Auschwitz between April and July of 1944. During those three months, around 260,000 Hungarian Jews were murdered within the gas chambers in the camp.
This woman is not the only German to have been prosecuted this year, as former SS officer Oskar Groening was recently sentenced to four years in jail for accessory to murder in over 300,000 cases. Groening worked at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during World War 2, and was known as the “Bookkeeper of Auschwitz.”
