Tourists Watch Crocodile Eat Human In Zambezi

Some tourists who were enjoying the view on the Zambezi River, the boundary between Zimbabwe and Zambia, witnessed a crocodile chewing on the remains of a human body on the riverbank. The tourists, who are believed to be from the United Kingdom, were near the Victoria Falls when they witnessed the terrible incident.

Conservation activist Trevor Lane of the Bhejane Trust said the crocodile was eating the lower part of a human body. Lane and his colleagues believed the man eaten by the crocodile was an ivory hunter. Shortly before the incident, forest guards had clashed with 13 ivory hunters. Lane believes the body belongs to one of the hunters which was killed.

The rangers believe nine of twelve hunters managed to cross the Zambezi River. One of the hunters, who was believed to be wounded, attempted to swim across the river and was attacked by the crocodile. The crocodile incident was reported to the Zambian officials, however, when the police and forest guards arrived on the scene, it appeared that the rest of the body had already been eaten by the crocodile.

Nile crocodiles are found in the Zambezi River, growing to a size of more than 16 feet. In 2013, a man was ambushed and killed by the crocodile when canoeing in the middle of the Zambezi River.
