This Cabin Is Built Out Of 3 Shipping Containers, Wait Till You See Inside!

One man has shunned buying hugely expensive houses and has instead built a staggering home out of three shipping containers. After buying each of the containers for just $3,400, Joseph Dupuis from Ottawa joined them together and began work that would eventually see them be converted into a truly amazing place to live.

The cabin is fully insulated so that it is not affected by the cold winters and has an in-built cooling system for warmer weather. It also has plenty of space, measuring in at 355 square feet, along with a wood stove, solar panels for power, a fully furnished kitchen and shower.

One downside is that the cabin doesn’t currently have a toilet as installing one and digging into the ground for the septic tank would make the cabin legally a dwelling. This would mean that Dupuis would be unable to move it to other locations without first getting permission from his local authority. However, he has designated a space for a toilet to be put in if he chooses to in the future.

Dupuis first began working on the cabin in 2010, spending an hour everyday designing the plans for the project. Over the course of three years, he built the cabin on his family’s farm, estimating that it took around 3 months of work to fully complete. He did most of the work himself with professionals just left to sort out the plumbing and electrical fittings.

The Canadian now wants to help others build their own cabins to avoid the inflated prices for traditional homes. “I want to help as many people as I can get out of the pocket of big banks and make people more self-sufficient,” he said. “I see my friends buying $400,000 houses and they’re in debt for the next 35 years. It’s pretty backwards — we don’t need these expensive homes and all this stuff we have in our lives.”
