The Third Time Is The Charm For ‘Spider-Man’ Casting

In the early days of the cinematic superhero craze, one of the few decent comic book movies to watch was 2002’s Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire. It was funny and colorful and full of high-flying action. The sequel was even better than the first with the addition of the fantastic villain Doctor Octopus, but the third film fell so short of anything good that Maguire’s run was cut off. Then came the narrative heavy Andrew Garfield version that found more strength in the journey of Peter Parker than in the hijinks of Spider-Man — but the sequel to this one was bad enough to cut the Garfield version short as well. And even though time seems to be proving the Spider-Man isn’t a guarantee for a good movie, Hollywood is trying again.

With Marvel Cinematic Universe’s introduction of Spider-Man into the fold of the Avengers, they’ve found another young man to slip into to that red spandex costume. It was recently announced that British actor Tom Holland, seen in movies like The Impossible and How I Live Now, is set to fill the shoes of Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, in the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: Civil War due in theaters May of next year. Holland is also slated to star in a stand alone Spider-Man film due to release in 2017.
