Sumatran Tiger Kills Zookeeper During Routine Cage Cleaning

It was supposed to be nothing more than a routine cage cleaning, but due to a horrible oversight, it ended up costing the life of an experienced zookeeper. The victim of this incident was Ryszard Pakla, a 58-year old from Poland who worked in Wroclaw Zoo.

The attack happened at approximately 7.30 am when Ryszard walked into the Tiger’s cage as usual to conduct a routine cleaning. The tiger was not supposed to be in the cage at the time but unfortunately it had not yet been removed. The rare Sumatran tiger attacked and mauled Ryszard to death almost instantly and nearly attacked one of his colleagues as well, who managed to shut the gate in time.

Ryszard had been working with the rare tiger for over 5 years now and his tragic death remains a cold remainder about the dangers of raising animals in captivity.
