Spielberg Directed ‘Ready Player One’ Set To Hit Theaters December 2017

The first picture that Steven Spielberg has directed for Warner Bros. since 2001’s A.I., now has an official release date. Ready Player One is a science fiction adventure that takes place in 2044 and centers around a video game enthusiast who is absolutely obsessed with the 1980’s, presumably since this was the birth of the video game boom. The gamer, known as Wade Watts embarks on a virtual treasure hunt that could lead to both fame and fortune where the clues can only be figured out by a person who is familiar with arcade games and other elements of 1980’s culture.

As Polygon reports, the movie is going to be based on the book by the same name, which made its debut in 2011. Spielberg signed on to direct the picture back in March and he is also serving as the producer. While there was a time when his name being attached would mean almost automatic success, his last directorial outing was largely a failure. It’s possible Spielberg’s foray into directing this again is an attempt to make a bit of a comeback in that regard.
