South Dakota Native American Tribe To Open Country’s First Marijuana Resort

Now that the United States is becoming more welcoming when it comes to marijuana, one Native American tribe is making an unprecedented move. The South Dakota Santee Sioux tribe has made its rather impressive fortune running casinos on its reservation.

Now the tribe is going to be opening up a marijuana resort. Tribe leaders say they intend to grow their own weed and then set up smoking lounges that will include a nightclub, arcade games, bar and food service, and eventually, slot machines and an outdoor music venue.

We want it to be an adult playground,” tribal President Anthony Reider said. “There’s nowhere else in American that has something like this.” The tribe says that the venture could generate as much as $2 million a month and they have already started work on the growing facility.

The resort is expected to officially open on New Year’s Eve this year. While the United States government can’t interfere as long as the tribe follows certain strict protocols. Even as this plan was announced, other tribes have started looking at whether or not it might work for them.
