Singer Avril Lavigne Admits To Months-Long Battle With Lyme Disease

Amid rumors of rehab, pregnancy, or other “undisclosed health issues“, singer Avril Lavigne has announced she’s actually been struggling with Lyme disease since last year. The reasons for Lavigne’s absence from the entertainment spotlight are now clear. She was bedridden for five months while she battled this debilitating disease that causes symptoms like fatigue, fever, headache, and skin rashes, among other things.

Lyme disease is spread through bacteria from tick bites, and Lavigne believes she was bitten sometime last spring. She spoke with People Magazine, stating that she “felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying“. The Canadian-born Lavigne says she is now feeling 80% better, thanks to plenty of rest and the support of her family and husband, Nickleback frontman Chad Kroeger, she is looking forward to getting back to work.

Her next single, Fly, will be released later this month in support of the 2015 Special Olympics.
