Reporter Spots Missing Boys While Covering Their Disappearance

It’s a safe bet that those in the wonderful world of journalism usually have to go looking for news, or at least some information to go by. They can’t always count on the next big scoop to fall into their laps — but it can happen, of course. It can even lead to situations where whole news stories get invalidated — but on the plus side, lives get saved.

Shawn Annarelli is a reporter in Pennsylvania, and had the intent to find out more about the elementary school boys that had gone missing. He looked for a police officer to help him out, but in the middle of his search, he heard something rustle in the nearby woods. Annarelli opted to have a look; to his surprise, he found the missing boys safe and sound — albeit unwilling to go to school. Despite his line of work, he decided to bring the boys to the police and made sure they got home safely.

Once that wrapped up, Annarelli had a problem: he had to report the story while being a key player in the story. After a talk with his editors at the Centre Daily Times, it was decided that he would write an article that offered a first-person account. Pure luck may have allowed the boys to be found, but it’s no less relieving to know that the reporter helped keep them safe.
