Original Batmobile From The Sixties Goes On Sale

Batman may have been around for nearly eighty years, but the world’s greatest detective is still one of the most popular superheroes today. If anything, fans care about him more now than they did back in the past. It’s a safe bet that there are people who want as much Batman in their lives as possible — in which case, it’s possible to snag one of the biggest collector’s items out there.

It’s common knowledge that in the sixties, Adam West donned the caped crusader’s cowl and drove around in a flame-spewing car as part of the Batman TV series. The Batmobile is an iconic vehicle, least of all because it’s based on an unsold concept car; though three replicas exist, it’s a rarity that most would be lucky to even see. It’s no surprise, then, that right now it has a price tag of almost $5,000,000 in an Arizona auction.

Nearly three years ago, the Batmobile was bought for roughly the same amount, so there’s at least a precedent for such a bank-busting price. Still, this is the first time since then that the vehicle has been on the market, so anyone dedicated enough — and rich enough — to drive it into their garage is welcome to. Plus, it comes with a Batman-themed pinball machine signed by Adam West. It’s hard to imagine a better incentive.
