NRA Suing The State Of Florida After Passing Gun Law

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is suing the state of Florida in federal court in an attempt to block Florida’s new gun law. This new law increases the age for purchasing a weapon from 18 to 21 in an attempt to reduce the likelihood of mass shootings, adds a three-day waiting period on gun purchases, and allows school staff members to carry guns.

The lawsuit NRA filed against the sate was for “violating the constitutional rights of 18- to 21-year-olds.”  This lawsuit was filed just one hour after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act was signed into law by Florida’s governor, Rick Scott.

This law was enacted after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, a former student of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, used a legally bought AR-15 semi-automatic rifle to kill 17 students and injure another 16.

If the law stays, we’re hoping it’ll reduce the number of school shootings in Florida, and maybe other states will enact a similar law.
