Nova Scotia Man Breaks Into A Ranch And Does The Chores
Usually when it comes to cases of breaking and entering, it doesn’t end poorly. At best, it leads to stolen property and ruined homes; at worst, it can end or even start with someone’s death. One can hope for exceptions to the rule, though — and while it likely doesn’t happen often, it can still happen. This British Columbia incident is one of those exceptions, baffling as it may be.
Nova Scotia’s Christopher Hiscock went on a drive one day, only to find a good-looking ranch on his way down the road. Curious, he headed towards it, and found that the owners had left the door unlocked — which was all the invitation he needed to head inside. Rather than steal to his heart’s content, he decided to make himself at home. Notably, he did so by tending to the ranch’s chores; he fed the cats, gave hay to the horses, and even did the laundry. In exchange, Hiscock made liberal use of the shower and razor, and settled in to watch some TV — only to be caught by the ranch’s owners.
As it turns out, Hiscock is less of a hardened criminal and more of a man down on his luck. Although he did steal a truck to make it to the ranch, he only did so out of fear that he would be laid off from work; by the time he made it there, he had run out of options as well as money. Thanks to his admission of guilt and a clean record, Hiscock made it out with a one-year probation; he may have made some poor choices, but at least for a moment he felt like he was at home.
