Martin Freeman Jumps From The Hobbit To Captain America: Civil War

It’s safe to say that Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to dominate hearts and minds for a while yet — as it did even before opening day — but life goes on regardless. In turn, Marvel Studios isn’t going to relax just yet, or let anyone else even get the chance; there’s a sizable slate of movies for the proposed “Phase 3” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after all. As such, the first movie of that phase — Captain America: Civil War — is not only in full production, but also bringing in some big names.

With his time on The Hobbit over and done, esteemed actor Martin Freeman has officially joined the cast of the star-spangled man’s next outing. There’s been no word on what sort of role he’ll be playing, but this is a man who — by Marvel’s account — has made a name for himself in multiple movies and TV shows and owns a slew of major awards; the chances of him getting a small part are slim. The question is whether or not he’ll wield superpowers in the film; it’s possible, but he could just as easily turn out to be a bureaucratic ally — or menace, as The Winter Soldier showed quite handily.

Either way, fan reaction seems to have been quite positive so far, and with good reason. It’s hard to doubt Freeman’s acting ability, so it all comes down to Marvel Studios doing him justice. The world will know for sure come next May, when Civil War makes its slated debut.
