Man Steals Phone But Returns It Four Days Later With An Apology

A thief who stole a mobile phone from a store in New Jersey has returned it four days later to the rightful owners along with a letter of apology. Police had been called to a robbery on September 11th and were investigating the crime when CCTV footage showed a man tossing a phone over the security fence for the company along with a handwritten note saying sorry and explaining why he had stolen the device.

According to the note, the man had taken the phone because he was desperate and had no money as he was unemployed. Trying to raise some cash to help his children, he had taken the item in the hopes of exchanging it, though had a change of heart several days later. The note read: “I’m the one who took your phone. I’m in a desperate situation. I’m sorry I hurt you. I’m not that type but a situation can lead some to do dumb things.

The store owners have since said they aren’t interested in pursuing legal proceedings against the man and instead hope that he has learned a valuable lesson and won’t do anything like this in the future.
