Government Stating That Four Large Cancer Charities Are Scams

The Federal Trade Commission, in a rare joint action with attorney generals from each of the 50 states, have named four cancer charities that are scams. These are each owned by an extended family member and have conned owners out of $187 million according to CNN.

The charities include the Breast Cancer Society, Cancer Support Services, The Cancer Fund of America and the Children’s Cancer Fund of America. These charities stand accused of only spending three cents from every dollar that’s donated to them on cancer patients while the other 97 cents went to pay for fundraisers, personal purchases (e.g. cruises, jet skis, lingerie) and family college tuition.

None of these organizations’ officers and directors are found guilty as of yet. They also did not care to make much of a comment, the only thing said is that they’ll continue to operate and help those in need until ordered otherwise.
