If there was one thing that confused the minds of Brady Bunch fans, it was the former spouses of Mike and Carol. While in the pilot of the show, it is insinuated that Mike’s former wife passed away, there is little mentioned about Carol’s previous husband. In fact, the series goes as far as to avoid the topic entirely, leaving the kids to act as if their respective stepparent is their own on many occasions. While Carol’s former husband made an appearance in A Very Brady Sequel, the film was not an official part of The Brady Bunch and only served as a parody.

When Huffington Post sat down with Florence Henderson, the actress who played Carol Brady, the question was posed to her. The answer she provides is a very cynical one: she killed off her former husband in order to marry Mike. While it is said as a joke, it does make you wonder.
