Diver Finds Massive Anaconda Lurking In An Underwater Cave

For some people, snakes are already terrifying enough when they’re on land. Whether they’re slithering through grass or hiding in trees, it only takes the sight of them to ruin a person’s day — even before they land a good bite. But now snake-haters might have yet another reason to worry; not only can they dive deep underwater, but some of the largest among them can hide in the depths.

Pro diver and TV show host Karina Oliani made that discovery for herself one day. She took to the waters of Bonito, Brazil to try and find some film-worthy creatures in the submerged caves. Naturally, she got her wish; on her fourth day of exploration, she and her photographer found an anaconda — one that measured at least eight feet long and likely weighed nine hundred pounds. With that size, it could have easily crushed Oliani in one go; thanks to being underwater, it could have caught up to her if she tried to move or posed a threat.

Thankfully, the anaconda didn’t even bother. Despite her fears, Oliani kept her composure and observed the giant reptile in its natural habitat. Before long, both of them grew comfortable enough with each other to have some up-close interactions. In the end, the encounter went without incident, Oliani got what she needed, and everyone learned a valuable lesson: always stay calm, even when dealing with giant snakes.
