Amelia Earhart’s Remains Discovered On Pacific Island

Amelia Earhart was the first woman to ever fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and could have possibly been the first person to ever circumnavigate the world, if her plane hadn’t gone missing over the Pacific Ocean in 1937.

Remains were found on the Pacific island of Nikumaroro, north of New Zealand, in 1940. In 1941 a forensic analysis was performed on the remains, resulting in the skeleton found believed to be male – however a recent study conducted by Richard Jantz showed that the bones belonged to Earhart.

The bones were uncovered by a British expedition team exploring Nikumaroro when they discovered a human skull. After finding the skull, a more thorough search was carried out which resulted in several other bones to be found and a woman’s shoe.

So, after eighty-one years, we finally know where Amelia Earhart’s journey ended. Many speculated that her plane went down somewhere in the Pacific Ocean but now we know at least where her journey came to a stop.
