Abused Pitbull Receives New Nose Thanks To Reconstructive Surgery

All too often we hear about an abandoned animal that has been abused to a point where they are almost unrecognizable as the pet they once were. It’s unfortunate, but we have a tale of that happening recently. A pitbull was found in the streets with half of its face missing, but thanks to reconstructive surgery, this little guy is going to lead a happier life from here on out.

The two-year-old pitbull, named Khalessi, was found abandoned on an Orlando, Florida, lawn without a nose or sinus cavity. She had issues with her back legs, plus was severely underweight for her age. Her rescuer, Stephanie Paquin, of Passion 4 Pits Rescue, believes the dog was severely abused by a previous owner, but noted “she does not let it affect her outlook on people.” Khalessi apparently “loves people.

Thanks to Hays Towne Veterinary Hospital, Khalessi now has a new look, as she underwent surgery to fix the damaged portion of her face. The hospital said: “She had a slow recovery after her lengthy surgery yesterday but she is awake and stable. She is on pain medication and resting comfortably in ICU. Khalessi took her first full sniff this morning of her breakfast which she enjoyed. She just finished her first meal and obviously enjoyed it very much. This is probably the first meal she has been able to smell in quite a long time. We are cautiously optimistic that her reconstructive surgery will stay intact. Khalessi has a long recovery ahead of her, but this is the first step in the right direction.”

Khalessi will require a few more operations to repair her legs, plus a bit of dental work for the teeth that have exposes roots, but she is doing far better now.
