Baltimore Orioles Win First Season Game Without Fans

It’s believed to be a Major League Baseball first. The Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Whitesox played a regular season game on Wednesday afternoon with no fans allowed to be in attendance. The game was played mainly because MLB did not want to have to try and reschedule an entire series (the two teams had already canceled the first two games) despite the fact that the rest of the city’s attention is firmly focused on the riots and demonstrations that are going on, following the death of Freddie Gray whilst he was in police custody.

The team did not want to take security forces away from keeping the peace on the streets of Baltimore, according to the Baltimore Sun so the two teams played in a nearly-empty ballpark. The only people who were in attendance were those who worked there or were covering the game for various media outlets.

The Orioles were able to beat the visiting Chicago Whitesox 8-2, thanks to a six-run first inning. Now the team will get to travel out of town and get back to playing baseball in front of crowds, while it’s city still deals with the underlying problem.
