Australian East Coast Sees Coldest Winter In 60 Years

The east coast of Australia has seen the coldest winter in more than six decades. A cold snap extending from New South Wales to Queensland has temperatures reaching -11°C in some places, and on Monday morning parts of western Sydney fell to -4°C.

In recent days many suburbs spread across the two Australian states have set new records, or beat records that have been held for many years. Marrangaroo, approximately 150 kilometers from Sydney, NSW, set a new record yesterday morning reaching -11.1°C, whilst the lowest in Queensland yesterday was -6.2° in Wellcamp, 140 kilometers inland from Brisbane.

Many places in NSW and QLD have had no water due to water freezing in pipes. Residents have been told not to pour hot water on external pipes, as this can cause further issues. Thankfully the Bureau of Meteorology has said these temperatures aren’t sticking around – as the week progresses things will start to warm up.
