6-Year-Old Child Finds Loaded Gun In Ikea Store And Fires It

A six-year-old child found a loaded gun wedged between cushions on a sofa at an Ikea store in Fishers, Indiana, at approximately 2 p.m. on Monday. After playing with the gun for a few minutes, the child accidentally discharged the weapon.

The gun was accidentally left on the sofa by another shopper, when the gun fell out of its holster as he sat down to test the sofa out. Tom Weger from the Fishers Police Department said “He sat down and somehow or another it became dislodged from this body and when he got up he didn’t realize that he was without it.

The man continued shopping – unaware that he was no longer carrying his weapon. It was only when the six-year-old child discharged the weapon that the man realized he had somehow lost it. “As soon as he realized there was a commotion in the store, the gun-owner quickly identified himself…. and fully co-operated with the investigation,” Weger said.

Luckily no one was injured, and the gun was swiftly taken from the child’s hands. Ikea released a statement, saying “[the] safety and security of customers and co-workers is the top priority. [Ikea] has a no-weapon policy in our locations to prevent exactly these types of situations.”

Lawyer Guy Relford said the gun-owner will likely not face any charges, saying “being a knucklehead is not a crime in Indiana, or in most places.”
